An Italian company that specializes in converting waste into energy has now chosen the city of Grand Rapids as an expansion location.
EBC Energy will be opening a business development office inside Michigan State University’s Grand Rapids Innovation Park on Michigan St. NW near Monroe Avenue.
They say part of the reason is because operating a business in Grand Rapids costs about half of what it costs in New York, and West Michigan also has several potential customers and partners.
The Grand Rapids expansion also comes as waste-to-energy companies face oversaturation in Europe, where turning waste like manure, biproducts from beverage companies and domestic waste into energy has been prevalent in Europe for decades.
