Former President Trump talks to West Michigan Live on Michigan primary day

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- It is presidential primary election day in Michigan, and former President Donald Trump was a guest on West Michigan Live this morning.

He told host Justin Barclay that the Biden Administration's border policies allowed an illegal immigrant to enter the country and kill a Georgia nursing student, allegedly.

"He's an animal that came in. And he came in, probably, a couple of times. Because I heard we threw him out. We had the strongest border in the history of our country. And now we have the worst border ever in the world, I think," Trump said.

Barclay asked the former president about the push by the Biden Administration for electric vehicle battery production in places like Green Charter Township, near Big Rapids.

"Well, I've spent a lot of time, as you know, in your state over the years... and I said, 'Don't let them keep taking your car companies.' Because, you know, Mexico took 32 percent of the car business that you had. Everybody is. And this is the final death knell," Trump said.

He said United Auto Workers union president Shawn Fain was "so stupid" when it came to negotiations over the electric-vehicle manufacturing.

"These cars don't go far. I was in Iowa ... there were electric cars all over the streets. It was 40 degrees below zero on election day ... and there were cars, hundreds of them that were just out. They don't work in cold weather. They don't go far enough," Trump said.

He added that electric vehicles have their place and he approves of hybrid vehicles.
