Four Michigan State Police troopers have received rewards for their bravery during an incident back in August where a Muskegon County Deputy had been shot.
Police say in the early hours of Aug. 14th, 2023, there was a police chase in Muskegon County with the suspect in a shooting from the day before. After about half an hour, the suspect then crashed into a ditch in Ravenna Township and began firing at officers.
That's when Muskegon County Sheriff’s Deputy Joshua Hankins was shot multiple times by the suspect, identified as 28-year-old Zachary Joseph Johnson, who was then shot and killed by police.
The troopers: Akers, Crook, Knudson and Park, assisted in subduing the suspect while simultaneously administering first aid to the injured deputy - Today, they've received the MSP Bravery Award for their actions.
