GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Michigan Court of Appeals believes there is sufficient evidence to send former Grand Rapids Police Officer Christopher Schurr to trial on a second-degree murder charge.
WOOD-TV reports the court voted 2-1 in its decision. Schurr had appealed the case, saying common law gives officers the right to use deadly force against a fleeing felon. He shot Patrick Lyoya dead during an April 2022 traffic stop, after the 26-year-old took off running and they got into a skirmish on the ground.
