Jenison Adult Foster Care Home Shuts Down After Death

A Jenison adult foster care home has agreed to shut down in response to the death of 83- year-old resident back in October.

The home, known as American House Senior Living Jenison Cherrywood, agreed to officially shut down by Saturday. In the agreement with the state, American House Senior Living said it would not seek a new license for the home for five years

A state investigator recommended closing the Cherrywood home in response to Calvin Powers’ death on October 14th, where he somehow managed to walk out unnoticed, a short time after pulling the fire alarm. His body was found outside seven hours later on a cold and rainy night.

Workers admitted not checking on Powers’ room every two hours as required.
