BBB and Attorney General caution Lions fans about ticket-selling scams

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Scammers often come out of the woodwork for big events like the Detroit Lions' home playoff game this Sunday against Tampa Bay.

The Lions can advance to the NFC championship game with a win against the Buccaneers.

Katie Grevious, marketing & community relations manager with the Better Business Bureau in Western Michigan, says using a credit card may be a good idea when buying tickets.

"Credit card companies often offer more protection in case there is fraud," she said. "You want to be really careful about that peer-to-peer payment, and those apps. Treat that money like cash. If you were to hand that cash over to a man selling tickets on the street, you're never going to see it again. So, that's how you want to think of it."

Fans should be careful to purchase tickets only from legitimate websites. One way is through the NFL Ticket Exchange via Ticketmaster.com .

"If you can't find one of those, and they're all sold out, be very cautious when it comes to buying them third-hand from someone who maybe had tickets and can't go. Things like that," Grevious said.

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel is warning fans about ticket scams, as well. Here is a website link to a news release about that.
