GAINES TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- The Kent County Sheriff's Office says a 53-year-old Gaines Township man was fatally struck by a vehicle last night in the Dutton area of the township.
It happened just after 9:30 Sunday night. Sheriff's deputies, Dutton firefighters and Life EMS paramedics responded to the scene on Dutton Avenue south of 68th Street. That is east of Hanna Lake Avenue.
KCSO Sergeant Eric Brunner tells WOOD Radio the pedestrian walked out in front of a northbound pickup truck, which was not able to stop in time. The pedestrian was declared dead at the scene.
"The driver of the pickup was a 19-year-old man from the City of Wyoming," Brunner said. "So, this crash is still under investigation by KCSO Traffic Safety Unit, looking into the details that led up to the crash."
