Lack of Ice on Great Lakes Spells Bad News for Michigan Shorelines

The warm winter has caused near record-low ice levels on the Great Lakes this winter, which spells bad news for the shorelines. More ice keeps waves from making landfall during big storms, thuis decreasing the amount of erosion shorelines endure.

Experts like Bryan Mroczka, a meteorologist and physical scientist at the Great Lakes Enviromental Research Laboratory in Ann Arbor, tells WOOD TV that ice coverage has dropped on average 5% percent a decade, and that climate change, is the likely reason.
