City of GR to hold virtual meeting Jan. 11 for Division Avenue project

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The City of Grand Rapids will hold a virtual meeting on Thursday, January 11, concerning upcoming Division Avenue infrastructure projects and other infrastructure work.

It has invited the public to watch the meeting online, beginning at 6 p.m. that evening. Here is the website registration link.

Those who log in will learn more about the work that will be done and how to access the roads during construction. The Division Avenue reconstruction project in 2025 will extend from Fulton Street to Michigan Street, and entail primary power and telecommunication improvements. There also will be Consumers Energy, AT&T and Vicinity Energy improvements in 2024.

In advance of four major downtown street reconstruction projects, the public is invited to a virtual meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 11. Those who log in will learn more about how the Division Avenue from Fulton Street to Michigan Street primary power and telecommunication improvements project and the Consumers Energy, AT&T and Vicinity Energy improvements in 2024 and the reconstruction of Division Avenue from Fulton Street to Michigan Street in 2025 will impact residents and visitors.

This meeting provides an opportunity for those who live, work, play, and travel on the road to learn more about work to be complete, schedule, and access during construction. Those interested in participating in the hour-long construction preparation meeting must pre-register HERE. A confirmation email containing the meeting link will be sent prior to the meeting.

The Division Avenue N work from Fulton Street W to Michigan Street NE begins this spring.

The 2024 power and telecommunication projects will:

  • Reconstruct the Division Avenue and Fulton Street intersection including curb and gutter.
  • Upgrade the City primary power and telecommunications system in Division Avenue from Fulton Street to Michigan Street.
  • Complete Consumers Energy, AT&T, and Vicinity Energy Improvements in Division Avenue from Fulton to Michigan Street
  • Potentially remove up to four areaways under existing sidewalks in Division Avenue from Fulton Street to Michigan Street.

The 2025 reconstruction of Division Avenue from Fulton Street to Michigan Street project will:

  • Reconstruct the street including new sidewalks, driveway approaches and street pavement
  • Update water and storm sewer lines
  • Install new ornamental street lighting
  • Install new traffic signals
