The Grand Rapids Police say detectives have identified a 68-year-old man as the suspect in a September 1985 cold-case killing.
According to a news release, the body of Burnett Frierson was discovered in the home of 68 year-old Ronald Davis, on Sheldon Avenue near Logan Street, by a friend. Frierson was 48 and living alone at the time. He had been fatally stabbed. The G-R-P-D says D-N-A samples from an unknown suspect were collected and placed into CODIS, which is the national Combined DNA Index System.
In August, Grand Rapids Police were notified that a CODIS match had been made identifying Davis as the suspect. A warrant for felony murder was then issued and Davis was swiftly arrested.
He is now being held at the Kent County Jail.
