HOLLAND, Mich. -- Wind gusts, snow and freezing fog have led to some power outages along sections of the West Michigan lakeshore.
As of 11:30 a.m. Monday, Consumers Energy was reporting about 2,300 customers without electrical service. In the WOOD Radio listening area, the section primarily impacted at that time were south of Saugatuck, in Ganges Township, and in Plainwell. Some other outages were reported elsewhere around the state as wind gusts surpassed 40 miles per hour at times.
The National Weather Service issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Ottawa, Muskegon and Kalamazoo counties until 4 a.m. That included strong winds and blowing snow, as well as slippery road conditions.
Consumers spokesman Rich Houtteman offered some tips to utility consumers during the weather event.
"We just recommend that you keep all of your electronic devices charged. If you do see downed power lines, please say at least 25 feet away from those and call 911," he said.
Consumers Energy says it has about 180 repair crews on call, if needed, to deal with the weather-related outages.
