Long Time Top Cop Retiring After More Than 40 Years of Service in East GR

Renowned East Grand Rapids public safety officer Mark Herald is officially retiring after 40 years of service in law enforcement, 21 of which having been served in East Grand Rapids.

Prior to working in East GR, he first worked for the Grand Rapids Police Department as officer, before eventually becoming captain. After working as the city's deputy director of public safety for four years, he took on the role of public safety director for East Grand Rapids back in 2006.

Herald was also responsible for implementing the city's Drug Take Back Day, which continued to be a huge success to this day.

East Grand Rapids will now be conducting a national search for a new public safety director.
