FSU's Kendall College Student Art Market opens Thursday

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Ferris State University's Kendall College of Art and Design is offering shoppers a chance to discover unique holiday gifts while directly supporting the talents of local art students.

The Student Art Market will be open Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the downtown Grand Rapids campus. That is 17 Fountain St., at Division Avenue. The Student Art Market will feature a wide range of handmade goods, including paintings, illustration prints, stickers, holiday cards, and crocheted stuffies. More than 20 student vendors and registered student organizations are participating in this year’s market.

More from a KCAD/FSU news release:

We’re delighted to offer this unique experience,” said Nicole Dekraker, KCAD director of Student Engagement. “It’s a showcase of our students’ talents and a chance for our community to find special gifts with a direct impact on the next generation of creatives.”

A collaboration between KCAD Student Council and The Spark, KCAD’s creative retail store, ensures that participating students and student organizations retain 100 percent of the proceeds from their sales.

Student organizations use the proceeds to support professional development opportunities such as travel to conferences, membership in professional associations, hosting guest speakers and transportation costs to visit museums, galleries and design firms.

Visitors can also shop for various handmade goods from diverse local artists and makers at The Spark, open to the public Monday through Saturday. See hours and learn more at kcad.edu/thespark.

In addition to holiday shopping, visitors can explore two new exhibitions opening on campus the same day, Thursday, Nov. 30, with an opening reception from 5-7 p.m.
