KENT COUNTY, Mich. -- Kent County Clerk Lisa Posthumus Lyons figures the voter turnout will be decent Tuesday at local precincts.
Even though it's not a presidential election year, there are plenty of city council and commission seats, plus school millage and bond proposals to be decided. For example, there is a proposed Kent District Library millage-renewal proposal. Also, school district proposals in Cedar Springs, East Grand Rapids, Forest Hills, Grand Rapids, Greenville, Rockford and for the Regional Educational Service Agency in Newaygo County.
As for some of the council and commission races ... In Kentwood, 2nd Ward incumbent city commissioner Ron Draayer is being challenged by David Moore the Second. And a commissioner-at-large seat is up for grabs between Lily Cheng-Schulting and Maurice Groce. It's a non-partisan race for a four-year term in office.
In Grand Haven, former Mayor Robert Monetza and Andrea Hendrick are the two candidates on the ballot. Two incumbents are among the five people competing for three seats on the Cooperville City Council. In East Grand Rapids, Rachel Blair is taking on Abbie Groff-Blaszak for a 3rd Ward city commission seat. Five people are contending for three Lowell City Council seats. In Cedar Springs, Brayden Marvel and Molly Nixon are vying for a council seat.
