U.S. Rep. Moolenaar to introduce 'No Gotion Act' in Congress

Green Township, Mich. -- Gotion Inc. says it has no ties to the Chinese Communist Party or any other political party. But that hasn't stopped some local citizens and conservative lawmakers from expressing concern about the electric vehicle battery parts maker possibly opening an electric-vehicle (EV) plant near Big Rapids.

Second District Republican lawmaker John Moolenaar announced on West Michigan Live today that he will be introducing the "No Gotion Act" in Congress soon. His congressional district includes all of Barry, Clare, Gladwin, Gratiot, Ionia, Isabella, Lake, Manistee, Mason, Mecosta, Montcalm, Newaygo, Oceana and Osceola counties. It also includes portions of Kent, Ottawa, Muskegon, Midland and Wexford counties.

"No company that is based in these areas of concern, especially China, North Korea, Iran and Russia should be eligible for these tax credits. Because they are influenced by the CCP (Chinese Communist Party)," Moolenaar told WOOD Radio.

He says his pending bill would prohibit that.

"This would cover research dollars, investment dollars in plants and production. But at the end of the day, taxpayers shouldn't be funding the rise of our adversaries," Moolenaar added.

President Biden signed the Inflation Reduction Act into law last year. It provides tax credits for companies that manufacture Green Energy.

Gotion Corporation signed an agreement with Green Charter Township this year to build a $2.3 billion dollar electric vehicle battery plant near Big Rapids.
