GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The U.S. Marshal's Fugitive Task Force has rounded up the remaining two suspects in an April homicide.
The Grand Rapids Police say 18-year-old Omarion Dixon and 19-year-old Gemir Blakely were arrested Monday. A third suspect, 20-year-old Cartier Lawrence-Murray, was already in custody on unrelated charges. Police say all three are facing charges of open murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and assault with intent to murder, among other charges.
Twenty-year-old Julius Hight was fatally shot in the 2100 block of Batchawana Dr. SE, and a 15-year-old suffered minor injuries. That location is south of 28th Street and west of Breton Avenue.
Chief Eric Winstrom commended the Grand Rapids Police Major Case team and federal investigators for "pursuing justice."
“Any loss of life due to murder is tragic for our community, but especially so when a young person is the victim. I hope these arrests bring some measure of comfort and closure to Julius’ loved ones,” Winstrom said. “I commend the GRPD Major Case team and our federal partners for their dedication and determination to pursue justice in this case.”
