GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Grand Rapids Police say an autopsy has confirmed that Lavadis Crawford-Blackman's death last Friday morning was a homicide.
It happened during a gunfight along Division Avenue near Fair Street. That is a few blocks south of Hall Street. The GRPD says the Kent County Medical Examiner conducted the autopsy.
The gunfight was taking place when Grand Rapids Police officers arrived on the scene around 2:10 a.m. Police say an officer fired a gun, but not in the direction where Crawford-Blackman and another man had been shot. That second man was critically injured.
Michigan State Police are investigating. The officer was placed on standard leave during the investigation.
