GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Gerald R. Ford Museum and Gerald R. Ford Foundation will host a conference this Friday (Sept. 8) and Saturday that coincides with the exhibition, "A Heartbeat Away: The American Vice Presidency".
The free conference will feature speakers ranging from famed vice-presidential scholars to photographers. Grand Rapids Community College professor Dr. Robert Hendershot will moderate a panel discussion about that. On West Michigan's Morning News, he noted that the role of the vice president of the United States has expanded in recent decades.
"Both in terms of the vice presidency's influence on the operation of American politics - and its influence on policy of various administrations. And more than that: it's impact on the cultural fabric of the nation has been growing," Hendershot said.
Vice Presidential scholar Joel Goldstein will deliver the keynote address on Friday night at 6 o'clock. The second day of the conference begins at 9:20 a.m. on Saturday.
"So, we've got a lot to talk about and I very much look forward to this event on Saturday morning. And I hope your listeners will be able to join us," Hendershot told WMMN host Steve Kelly.
