Gaines Twp. Assessor VanHoose becomes Kent Co. equalization director

KENT COUNTY, Mich. -- Gaines Charter Township's loss is Kent County's gain.

That's the way Dan Wells, the township's Community Development Director, is looking at Megan VanHoose, with her taking over as the county's new Equalization Director. She leaves the township after about four-and-a-half years as its assessor.

"The county will really benefit from her skills and knowledge," Wells said. "I'm wishing her the best."

VanHoose replaces Matt Woolford, who retired in June after 26 years on the job. Prior to coming to Gaines Charter Township, Van Hoose worked for Eureka Charter Township in Montcalm County.

Gaines Township Manager Rod Weersing told WOOD Radio that VanHoose's departure is a loss for Gaines. He said the township has promoted Assistant Assessor Jim Zenas as Gaines Township's new Assessor.

"Losing Megan was a big blow to the township, but she did a fabulous job preparing Jim for this next venture in his life. And the township is confident that Jim will be able to do as good a job as Megan was doing," Weersing said.

VanHoose started her new job with Kent County on Tuesday. She is responsible for maintaining the county's valuations.

"I really enjoyed working with her. She was very organized and had a really good sense of how to work the department and very technically sound. And personally very amenable and easy to work with," Wells said.
