Gas prices down, but Triple-A says Labor Day demand could drive them up

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The price of gas decreased almost a dime in the past week, statewide.

Triple-A Michigan spokeswoman Adrienne Woodland tells WOOD Radio the statewide average is now $3.76 per gallon for regular unleaded. That is still 10 cents more than at this time last month. And it's about seven cents less than on Labor Day 2022.

Woodland says an increase in gas demand heading into the holiday weekend could reverse the downward trend.

"We saw increase in demand, but we also saw a really big increase in gasoline spots, along with a slight decrease in crude-oil prices," she said.

The average price at the pump in the Grand Rapids area is $3.75 per gallon for regular unleaded. That's down about 12 cents from a week ago.
