GRPD investigates fatal shootings

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Grand Rapids Police are investigating two unrelated shootings in the city that occurred Thursday.

The first happened around 1:40 a.m. It was on Burton Street near Buchanan Avenue, which is west of S. Division Ave. Police say a man was taken to a hospital, but later died. No identities had been released as of the time this article was posted online.

In the second incident, police say a woman was declared dead at a home on Union Avenue southeast, near Oakdale Street around 8 o'clock. Responding officers did not find the gunman when they arrived on the scene. But the GRPD says officers later took him into custody at another location on the city's northeast side.

Police figure the shooting may have stemmed from a domestic dispute, but they're still investigating.

The suspect's name and the victim's name had not been released by police at the time of publication.
