Semi-truck collides with another jackknifed semi on I-96 near Coopersville

COOPERSVILLE, Mich. -- Police say two semi-trucks collided around 12:45 this afternoon on eastbound I-96, just east of 68th Avenue in Polkton Township.

Ottawa County Central Dispatch says most of the traffic in backup was getting off at the other Coopersville exit or in Marne, as of the time of this report just after 3 p.m.

The two drivers were injured, but not seriously. One of the semi tractor-trailers jackknifed near Coopersville. Police say it appears the brakes locked up on the first big rig, causing it to jackknife.

The 34-year-old driver from Otsego was taken to a hospital with injuries, but Ottawa County Sheriff's deputies tell us he is recovering.

They say a 57-year-old man from Ontario was following in a separate tractor trailer and was unable to avoid a collision with the jackknifed tractor trailer. He suffered minor injuries.
