Police identify man who drowned in Grand River near Johnson Park

WALKER, Mich. -- Walker Police have identified 49-year-old Darryll LaJuane Heyward as the man who drowned in the Grand River on Tuesday morning.

A couple had spotted him go underwater near Johnson Park, north of Wilson Avenue.

The body was found last night west of the Indian Mounds boat launch in Grandville. Kent County Sheriff's divers retrieved it from the water and the county medical examiner conducted an autopsy today.

Walker Police say the preliminary cause of death was determined to be an accidental drowning. Police plan to release the man's name after his family has been notified.
