GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The United Way's annual "Stuff the Bus" campaigns are underway in West Michigan.
The back-to-school supply drive is a a partnership between United Way and local businesses in the community to gather backpacks, notebooks, pencils and other classroom necessities for students.
The drives are running now through mid-August.
Sara Sherwood, Community Engagement Coordinator at United Way of the Lakeshore, expressed enthusiasm on behalf of the local United Ways.
“We are excited to host the Stuff the Bus school supply drive and make a positive impact on the education of children in the region once again. With the support of volunteers and the generosity of the community, we can provide students and teachers with the resources they need to thrive this upcoming school year and beyond," she said.
United Ways says that, by providing school supplies to teachers and students, the program helps ensure that every child has access to a quality education and can start the school year off strong. Donated school supplies stay in the county where they are collected.
