Holland Museum to host Old-Fashioned Ice Cream Social at the Cappon House

HOLLAND, Mich. -- The Holland Museum will host its annual Old-Fashioned Ice Cream Social at the Cappon House on Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

It is free and designed to celebrate the history of the Cappon House, 228 W. 9th St.) and the family that lived there. It was the home of Holland's first mayor and local tannery owner Isaac Cappon. Built in 1874, it is now partially restored to its appearance in 1900.

From the museum news release:

Families are encouraged to bring a picnic blanket and lunch to enjoy on the lawn, where free ice cream, kid-friendly lawn games, and crafts will be available. Families can also visit the Cappon and Settlers Houses where docents will share stories of the houses and the people who lived and worked there.

“We are excited to welcome people of all ages to this fun-filled afternoon at the Cappon House on July 8th,” said Michelle Stempien, Education and Community Programs Manager. “We continue to offer this event to give back to the community and to create a space where education can foster inspiration.” This event is made possible through community support and Our Family Foods.
