ALPINE TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- The driver of a pickup truck that hit a house in the Comstock Park area of Alpine Township is recuperating at a hospital.
Kent County Sheriff's Sergeant Eric Brunner tells WOOD Radio first responders were summoned to the scene around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, after a pickup truck crashed through the front door of the two-story home near Wilmington Avenue and Stowell Street. That is west of West River Drive and south of Four Mile Road.
"They did arrive to find this white pickup truck pretty far into the front porch of the home, with considerable structural damage to the home," he said.
A gas line was struck but no leak resulted from the crash. A fire-rescue crew responded and freed the 66-year-old truck driver from the wreckage. He is from Grand Rapids.
"It's believed he may have had a medical (problem) prior to the crash," Brunner said. "He did have some injuries as a result of the crash. Therefore, he was transported to an area hospital. And we're monitoring his condition currently."
No one was inside the home at the time. Crews from Consumers Energy, D-T-E Energy and from the fire department all worked to remove the pickup from the house.
