Kent Co Sheriff's Office seeks witnesses to 33rd St shooting

CASCADE CHARTER TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- A 21-year-old man from Gaines Charter Township is in critical condition after being shot during a brawl Saturday night.

It happened just before midnight during an impromptu car show on 33rd Street, between Kraft and Patterson avenues. Sergeant Eric Brunner with the Kent County Sheriff's Office tells WOOD Radio the drivers were engaging in dangerous driving.

"These vehicles were congregating in that area and, at some point, a fight broke out between a 21-year-old Gaines Township man and others in the crowd. During that fight, that 21-year-old man was shot and taken to the hospital, where he was last known to be in critical condition," Brunner said.

Sergeant Brunner said the crowd left behind a lot of trash in their wake. Sheriff's deputies are working to learn more about who was involved in the shooting.

"Are detectives are currently working the case to try to track down any suspects or witnesses that were involved in it," he said.
