Night of Worship planned at 120-year-old renovated church building in GR

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- A Night of Worship will take place Saturday, May 6, at a formerly vacant church that has been refurbished into a wedding and event venue.

The Broadway Avenue is located at 1140 Broadway Ave. NW. It is just west of US-131 and Turner Avenue, and just south of Leonard Street.

Glenn Bulthuis is a musical leader at Oak Hill Church on Leonard Street NE in Grand Rapids, and for many years has fronted a popular local band, Glenn Bulthuis and the Tone-Deafs. Now, he's getting the word about the 120-year-old renovated building.

"In 2018, a young couple from my church purchased an abandoned church building on Broadway Avenue. The 120-year old building had been neglected for years and needed a lot of work," Bulthuis said in a news release.

After four years of hard work, the couple opened the old building last year and booked 32 weddings.

"But since that time they have been under attack because of their choice to run their business in accordance with their Christian values," Bulthuis said. "On Saturday, May 6, I am joining with the owners, Nick and Hannah, and fellow believers for a night of Worship at The Broadway Avenue. For over 100 years, worship filled this place, and we would love to fill this place with songs again. It will be an evening filled with music, praise, scripture, confessions, prayer and testimonies."

The event will get underway at 6 p.m. on May 6.
