Ottawa County moves to enhance election-results security

WEST OLIVE, Mich. -- The Ottawa County Clerk and Register of Deeds is making some changes to enhance security when it comes to the reporting of election results.

Justin Roebuck says his office will no longer utilize the method of electronic results transmission to deliver unofficial totals to the clerk's office on Election Night. Instead, deputized staff will be retrieving the results data directly from local clerks' offices on Election Night. The sealed containers in which results are placed will be tracked in real time by G-P-S as they are transported back to the Ottawa County clerk's office. The results will then be posted on the county's website.

Because the system will no longer have the speed of electronic processing, Roebuck says the clerk's office will try to minimize the delay the new process of delivering results by hand will cause. He says the county elections team has secured a ".gov" domain for elections. All election results will now be posted on https://miottawavotes.gov

"These process improvements are a major part of our ongoing efforts to ensure the security and integrity of our elections. I’m excited that we can roll out changes now to ensure that our team is prepared in advance of next year’s presidential election cycle," Roebuck said.
