GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Grand Rapids Tidal Waves kick off their sixth season April 22nd with their home opener at Northview High School, against the Capital City Savages. Kickoff will be at 5 p.m.

The women's tackle football team has been promoted to Division 2 of the Women’s Football Alliance (WFA) for the 2023 Season. They will play three home games April 22, April 29 and May 20, and three away games. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for kids, and those under 10 years old get in free. Tickets can be purchased at the gate or in advance online at www.tidalwavesfootball.com/tickets.

According to a Tidal Waves' news release:

The Waves finished the 2022 season with a 5-1 record and ranked third in Division 3 (out of 28 teams) and 16th overall in the WFA (out of 60 teams). The Waves were ranked first in scoring in 2022 for Division 3.

The Waves return five WFA All Americans from last season including first team offensive line player Ambra Mason and first team runningback/utility player Patriellia Whittington. Brittany Mayer returns at quarterback for her second season at the helm. “I’m truly excited for this season having a year of knowledge and growth under my belt. I have a lot more confidence and poise coming into this year” states Brittany Mayer. “The team all around has stepped up and grown in many key areas. It will be a good competitive year for the Tidal Waves as we show we belong in Division II.”

This year’s National Championship weekend will be held July 21-22 at the Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, Ohio.

The Waves are partnering with Ben’s Big Art Box this season and fans are encouraged to bring arts and craft supplies to the games for donation. Ben's Big Art Box began in memory of six-year-old Ben Klooster and honors his memory each year by collecting art supplies and craft kits during the month of December - Ben's birthday month. Ben was diagnosed with rhabdomyosarcoma (a tumor in his left sinus/orbit area) in November of 2014 and spent over half of his short life in and out of treatment at Helen DeVos Children's Hospital. Their mission is to bless as many kids as possible with the chance to express their creativity during their time at the hospital.
