BERLIN TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- The Ionia County Sheriff's Office says a 38-year-old woman from North Carolina was killed in a two-car crash late last night in Berlin Township.
It happened on eastbound I-96 near Jackson Road around 10 o'clock. Police say Kristin Vandersyde's vehicle, a Chevrolet Silverado, left the road and struck the cable barrier before re-entering the roadway, where it stopped in the travel lane. It was then struck by a semi-truck driven by a 39-year-old Big Rapids man who was unable to stop in time to avoid the collision.
Investigators say they don't think alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash.
Vandersyde was from Brevard, NC.
Also responding to the crash scene were the Berlin-Orange Fire Department, Life EMS, Michigan State Police, Lake Odessa Police Department, Saranac Fire Department, and Reed and Hoppes Towing.
