86-year-old man suffers severe injuries in alleged hit-and-run crash

EUREKA TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- An 86-year-old Greenville man is receiving treatment for severe injuries after being struck late last night by a car that police say did not stop after the crash. It occurred just before 10 o'clock on Youngman Road north of Carson City Road in Eureka Township. Montcalm County Sheriff's Lieutenant Tom George tells WOOD Radio how it happened

"As the man crossed the road, he stumbled and fell backward, causing him to be struck by the northbound vehicle. The vehicle did not stop and fled the scene. We're looking for a believed to be late-model, dark-colored sport utility-type vehicle," George said.

Anyone with more information about the crash should contact the Montcalm County Sheriff's Office.

It was one at least three car/pedestrian crashes in West Michigan this week.

The Wyoming Department of Public Safety says a 67-year-old man was was hit by a car and killed around 6:40 Tuesday morning. It happened while he was walking across South Division Avenue near 32nd Street, but not in the crosswalk. Officers say they arrived to find the Wyoming man lying on the road. He was declared dead at the scene.

A second crash involving a pedestrian happened about 15 minutes later at 44th Street and Byron Center Avenue. Wyoming Public Safety says a 13-year-old boy was struck and taken to a hospital with critical injuries. Both incidents are being investigated by the D-P-S and Forensic Service Units.

Police say the drivers remained at the scene and cooperated with their investigations after both crashes.
