WM Home & Gardening Show begins; GR Public Library starts gardening series

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The West Michigan Home and Garden Show is getting underway at DeVos Place in downtown Grand Rapids this (Thursday) afternoon at 3 p.m.

It will run through Sunday. The price of admission is $12 for adults, $5 for children 6 to 14 years old, and a multi-day ticket is $18. It is the 44th season for the Home and Garden Show, which features 13 gardens, five free seminar stages and more than 300 local businesses showcasing all kinds of home product.

Speaking of gardening, the Grand Rapids Public Library is starting a new event series for people interested in gardening, food preservation and forage. The free gardening experiences include:

Rural Life for Urbanites

Gardening, food preservation, and foraging isn’t just for those with large backyards and kitchens. In this three part series, learn how to grow, preserve, and find healthy, nutritious food in small or urban spaces.

Gardening in Small Spaces

Want to start your own garden but are short on yard space? Learn from experts at MSU Extension about how to grow delicious and nutritious food in small spaces.

Canning and Preservation Techniques

Experts from MSU Extension will lead a discussion on safe food preservation techniques and

practices. The first 25 attendees will receive a copy of the USDA Complete Guide to Home Canning.
