Consumers Energy expects to restore electrical service today

JACKSON, Mich. -- Consumers Energy says it has restored power to about 90 percent of its customers' homes that were impacted by the recent winter storms.

The utility company says more than 600 repair crews are working to restore electrical service. About 30-thousand homes and businesses in the Consumers Energy territory were still without power as of mid-morning Wednesday. In West Michigan, many of those outages are in Montcalm and Newaygo counties, as well as Courtland and Oakfield townships in Kent County.

Consumers Eenrgy says its goal is to turn the lights back on for almost all of its customers by the end of today.

We are ready to get the job done,” said Jeff Shingler, one of Consumers Energy’s officers in charge for the event. “The last week has brought a historic ice storm and another round of bad weather on its heels. We have restored 92 percent of 385,000 customers who lost power at some point, but know we must take care of those who have waited so patiently for us to finish.”
