Citizens Research Council to host webinar on Whitmer's exec budget

LANSING, Mich. -- The Citizens Research Council of Michigan will host a webinar Tuesday morning, Feb.28, to analyze Governor Whitmer's fiscal year 2024 executive budget.

The webinar will analyze the substantial tax relief proposals, plans to spend the massive amounts of revenue across state programs and services, and how the proposed budget will affect the long-term budget outlook. Here is the website link where you can register for the webinar.

Gov. Whitmer presented her $79 billion budget plan in early February during a joint committee hearing of the House and Senate appropriations committee in Lansing. It is a $3 billion increase over the current year's budget of $76 billion. The new fiscal year begins Oct. 1.

Whitmer's proposal is a record-setting operating budget in Michigan and would use most of Michigan's $9.2 billion surplus. Also proposed is a tax-policy bill that would lower taxes on retirement income, increase a tax credit for lower- and moderate-wage workers and distribute $180 inflation-relief checks to residents.

The CRC says it is partnering with MIRS News in hosting the webinar.

"They will pose questions to presenters. We welcome your thoughts on topics that you would like addressed. Please submit question and comments through the registration portal," the CRC says.
