GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity recently announced 47-million dollars in Going PRO Talent Fund grants will be doled out to 750 Michigan businesses.
"One-hundred-ninety three employers in West Michigan will receive about $17.5 million of that statewide allocation," Angie Barksdale said. She is the Chief Operating Officer for West Michigan Works, which helps employers apply for the grants. She says the money will help train 27-thousand workers statewide in high-skill positions.
"Certificate-based training in new technologies. We've had several employers apply for training dollars to help with ESL, English as a Second Language training, as they diversify their workforce," Barksdale said on West Michigan's Morning News.
A second round of funding comes up in May.
"So, I would encourage any employer who is interested in this to reach out. They can connect with us on our website at westmiworks.org .
