KENT COUNTY, Mich. -- There have been so many break-ins in and around Kent County in recent days that police are trying to figure out how some of them may be connected.
Kent County Sheriff's deputies nabbed four teenage suspects on Friday after spotting a vehicle that had been stolen in Grandville. They say they followed the three Grand Rapids teens and one Coopersville teen to a home, and then made the arrests.
Meanwhile, there were several other burglaries over the weekend in Cascade and Plainfield townships, plus Cedar Springs. The Sheriff's Office says its investigators are handling at least five cases. And they are collaborating with other local police departments on some additional break-ins and arrests, and trying to figure out how some of them may be related.
On Monday, there was a burglary at the Funky Monkey Smoke Shop in Coopersville. The Ottawa County Sheriff's Office says that was around 2:20 a.m. on West Randall Street. Deputies arrived just in time to see the suspects' vehicle taking off. They tried to make a traffic stop, but the vehicle sped away and ended up crashing on the 16th Avenue exit ramp in Marne.
Police say the suspects got out and took off running but a police dog tracked them to a church building. Later, deputies said they found a large amount of stolen items in the vehicle.
