GR pro volleyball franchise launches 'Name the Team' contest

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- West Michigan Pro Volleyball has launched a "Name the Team" contest for the Grand Rapids' major league women's Pro Volleyball Federation franchise. You can submit up to three name suggestions on the wmprovolleyball.com website.

The contest rules are posted below.

The first person to submit the name that is eventually chosen will win a grand prize package that includes two season tickets for the inaugural 2024 campaign. In addition, the winner will receive recognition at the home opener at Van Andel Arena, a volleyball signed by the inaugural team, the opportunity to meet the team, and an assortment of team merchandise.

All subsequent entrants who also suggest the winning name will receive two tickets to and recognition at the 2024 home opener, a team-autographed item, and two team t-shirts.

Fans are free to suggest a name beginning with “Grand Rapids,” “West Michigan,” or any other appropriate geographic moniker. As part of the entry form, they can also sign up for the team’s email list and to receive information about tickets and sponsorships when it’s available.

West Michigan Pro Volleyball says in a news release the winning name will be selected by ownership and executives from West Michigan Pro Volleyball and announced in the coming months.

“We are looking for a team name that proudly reflects the unique attributes of Grand Rapids and West Michigan and that captures the excitement of women’s professional volleyball,” said Scott Gorsline, executive vice president – family investments for DP Fox. “We look forward to considering all the creative suggestions that fans come up with.”

Announced on Dec. 5, 2022 as the first team in the Pro Volleyball Federation, West Michigan Pro Volleyball will make its debut at Van Andel Arena in February 2024. The franchise is operated by DP Fox Sports & Entertainment and owned by Dan DeVos, who is also co-owner and CEO of the American Hockey League’s Grand Rapids Griffins.

Official contest rules:

1. Objective. The purpose of the “Name the Team!” contest (the “Contest) is to harness the community’s creativity and assistance in selecting a team name for a women’s professional volleyball team coming to Grand Rapids, Michigan. 2. Sponsor. The Contest is sponsored by West Michigan Pro Volleyball, LLC (the “Sponsor”). 3. Eligibility. The Contest is open to those who are 18 years old or older and those younger individuals who, at the time of entry, have permission from their parent or legal guardian to enter. Participation constitutes entrant’s full and unconditional agreement to these Official Rules and the Sponsor’s decisions, which are final and binding in all matters related to the Contest. Winning a prize is contingent upon fulfilling all requirements set forth herein. No purchase is necessary to enter the Contest. 4. Timing. The Contest begins on Tuesday, January 31, 2023 at 12 PM EST and ends on February 10, 2023 at 11:59 PM EST (the “Contest Period”). 5. Entry. Entrants may submit suggested team names by submitting the form at wmprovolleyball.com. 6. Selection of Winner. One (1) winner (the “Winner”) will be selected by the Sponsor after reviewing all qualified entries. The Winner will be selected based on the subjective opinions of the Sponsor. The Winner will be notified that their entry has been selected no later than April 15, 2023. Notwithstanding the foregoing, the Sponsor reserves the right not to choose any winners. If more than one entrant submits the winning name suggestion, the entrant that submitted the suggestion first will be deemed the Winner. 7. Prize. The Winner will receive the following as the prize (collectively, the “Prize”): two season tickets for the inaugural 2024 campaign, recognition at the home opener at Van Andel Arena, a volleyball signed by the inaugural team, the opportunity to meet the team, and an assortment of team merchandise. 8. Release. By participating in the Contest, all entrants agree to release the Sponsor and its principals, members, affiliates, officers, directors, employees, successors and assigns, and/or representatives, and any other person or entity associated with the Contest from any and all liability claims or actions of any kind relating to the Contest. By participating in the Contest, entrants further understand and agree that entrants do not have any ownership, right, or interest in or to the name they have suggested, and entrants understand and agree that the Sponsor may use all suggested names, including that selected as the winning submission, as the Sponsor so chooses without consultation with entrant. {DP FOX Legal / RE/WMVOLLEY/GENERAL/00030281.DOCX } 9. Publicity. Participation in the Contest constitutes the Winner’s consent to the Sponsor and its respective agents use of the Winner’s name, likeness, photograph, voice, opinions and/or hometown and state for promotional purposes in any media, worldwide, without further payment or consideration. 10. General Conditions. The Sponsor reserves the right to cancel or modify the Contest if fraud, technical failures, illicit activity or any other factor beyond the Sponsor’s reasonable control impairs the integrity of the Contest, as determined by the Sponsor in its sole discretion. The Sponsor reserves the right in its sole discretion to disqualify any entrant it finds to be tampering with the entry process or the operation of the Contest or to be acting in violation of these Official Rules.
