Anonymous donor funding a program to help Holland teachers

HOLLAND, Mich. -- The Holland Public Schools have announced a new program to attract and retain teachers in the district.

At a news conference Tuesday morning, school leaders announced details of the "Teachers Live Here" initiative, which they say is funded by an anonymous donor. The program will pay a downpayment on a home mortgage for teachers who stay in the district five extra years. Twenty-five-thousand dollars will be provided for 10 teachers each year who are pre-approved for a standard mortgage.

“We all know the Holland area is among the best places in the country to live, and our teachers love living and working here," district Superintended Nick Cassidy said. "But finding affordable housing in the district can be a challenge. This program will provide opportunities for them to purchase homes in the community where they teach and put down roots. It will help great educators make the decision to start their careers here.”
