GAINES TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- The police investigation remains active into the shooting of a man in Gaines Township and subsequent shooting of his vehicle as he tried to get to a hospital.
"We do believe that there are more than just one suspect," Kent County Sheriff's Sergeant Eric Brunner tells WOOD Radio.
The 22-year-old man was shot in the Grand Village Mobile Home Park near Division Avenue and M-6 early Saturday morning. Brunner says people in two vehicles had met at the park before the shooting.
"We do believe that these two groups were known to each other, and that they specifically met up. So, it's not like a random person was targeted in the shooting," he said.
After the victim was shot, he took off in a car headed for a hospital but police say the gunman caught up to him on US-131 and began firing at his vehicle. It became disabled, but the victim got to the hospital with the help of a Good Samaritan. He's in stable condition. A suspect was booked on charges of attempted murder and other counts.
"And with the assistance of the Wyoming Department of Public Safety tactical team were able to execute a search warrant in the City of Wyoming. They arrested a 21-year-old Wyoming man in relation to the shooting," Brunner said.
