4th District Congressman Bill Huizenga talks about the debt limit

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- U.S. Representative Bill Huizenga likens the federal debt ceiling problem to someone who has overspent on their credit card and now the bills have come due.

The debt limit is the total amount of money that the United States government is authorized to borrow.

On Monday morning, the Fourth District Republican Congressman was a guest on WOOD Radio's "West Michigan's Morning News." He said some lawmakers don't want to talk about the spending problem.

He said they say, "Let's not talk about how we got here. Let's just pay the credit-card bill and go on our merry way."

"And some of us our saying: Hey, maybe it's time to examine how the credit card is being used," Huizenga said.

He added that the Biden Administration won't negotiate.

"About what it means to be fiscally responsible in the country. And that is a problem. We have to pay the bills, there's no doubt about that. But we also have to have the courage to talk about our spending habits," Huizenga said.

Huizenga was elected in November to represent Michigan's new 4th congressional district.
