Black Pigeon Studios to hold ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Black Pigeon Studios will hold a ribbon-cutting on Friday afternoon to mark the reopening and relocation of the Grand Rapids Studio.

The event gets underway at 3:30, followed by a red-carpet open house at 6 p.m. That will include a celebratory appearance by Lamorne Morris, from FOX television's program "New Girl."

Black Pigeon Co-Founder Josh Sikkema tells WOOD Radio says they are to take advantage of the growing film industry and bridge the gap between Hollywood and Michigan.

"The whole mission of Black Pigeon is to provide a sound base for video production that is of standards of Hollywood," Sikkema said.

He added that proposed new tax incentives for Michigan is prompting the company's expansion.

"We want to provide a space that could grow with the community at the same time. So, affordable, clean, and provide Hollywood-level resources for the community," Sikkema said.

He is a board member for the Michigan Film Industry Association (MiFIA), a grassroots advocacy association representing the film sector. It says its mission is to create a pro-jobs, pro-economy film incentive program in the State of Michigan.

The public open house will include a brief presentation by BPS founders, followed by a meet-and-greet with Morris, as well as MiFIA board members, public officials, studio executives and media production companies from across the state.
