CASCADE TOWNSHIP, MI. -- The Grand Valley Metro Council will host a pair of open houses this month to garner public input on how to improve access around the Gerald R. Ford International Airport.
It is part of an Airport Access Study looking at how to improve access from surrounding roads, freeways, walking and biking networks, and the bus system.
"We've gone through multiple phases of analyzing options, along with a couple rounds of public engagement," said Metro Council Director of Transportation Planning. "That has brought us to the point now of having a draft list of preferred projects. As well as a list of potential future options that would require more study."
The Preferred Projects include direct airport access from I-96, and shorter-term improvements such as freight access on Thornapple River Drive, safety enhancements at intersections approaching the airport, airport shuttle services, and bike and pedestrian facilities. Any additional options for potential implementation in the long term are classified as Future Options.
These are the times for the virtual public meeting via Zoom, and the in-person public open house.
