Minneapolis City Council approves public safety resolution

The Minneapolis City Council has passed a resolution to create a new public safety system.

The unanimous vote on Friday comes after nine of the council's 13 members announced last week that they planned to disband the city's police department following the death of George Floyd.

The resolution will start a process of creating a new public safety model through a year's worth of community engagement, structural change, and research.
