Michigan releases latest coronavirus numbers

(Lansing, MI) -- Michigan's coronavirus case tally grew to 56,014 on Thursday.

On Thursday, the state confirmed 406 more cases of the virus and 38 more COVID-19 deaths. However, 17 of the deaths confirmed Thursday were found during a Vital Records review, which means they did not only happen over the course of a day.

Michigan Chief Medical Executive Dr. Joneigh Khaldun said during a briefing Thursday that the rate of new coronavirus cases continues to slow down across the state. She also noted that west Michigan saw a reduction in the rate of new cases for the past week. Earlier in the week, she had said that while west Michigan's case rate was falling, it was still the highest in the state.
