CALEDONIA TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) -- A Kent County dam that was at risk of failing in 2018 has not yet received upgrades.
Documents filed with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission show the previous owner of the LaBarge Dam in Caledonia Township has not made many changes to ensure it would not have future problems.
Kent County officials used sand to stabilize the dam as a precaution in February 2018 due to flooding in the area, and FERC declared the dam safe after the incident.
However, FERC filings also show that it recommended that the dam's owner hire an engineer for another inspection, and that the additional inspection had yet to be carried out as of November 2019.
