(Edenville, MI) -- About 10,000 mid-Michigan residents are being ordered to evacuate after a dam was breached Tuesday.
The Edenville Dam on Wixom Lake breached Tuesday evening following several days of rain. The National Weather Service issued flash flood emergencies along the entire stretch of the Tittabawassee River in Midland County after the dam failed.
Governor Gretchen Whitmer has declared a state of emergency for Midland County, warning that downtown Midland could be under about nine feet of water by mid-morning on Wednesday.
Shelters were set up for those who were ordered to evacuate. Another dam was at risk of breaching as well, as of Tuesday night.
