LANSING, Mich. (WOOD) -- A dramatic day at the Michigan Capitol Wednesday, with three protesters being forced to leave the House gallery.
Video from the Michigan Information and Research Services news agency shows police forcibly removing two protesters, while a third person reportedly left on their own.
Lawmakers met Wednesday to debate whether to extend Governor Gretchen Whitmer's state of emergency, so the gallery was closed to the public to allow legislators and reporters to spread out and follow social distancing guidelines.
The protesters are members of Michigan United for Liberty, and they told WOOD-TV they were there to fight for Michiganders who were struggling to get unemployment benefits during the COVID-19 pandemic. Police have confirmed one of the protesters was taken to the hospital for unspecified injuries after they were removed from the building.
Another one of the demonstrators says the woman was put in a neck brace while she was being checked out by doctors.
