Both Ionia and Mecosta counties are reporting their first confirmed cases of COVID-19.
The Ionia County Health Department said Wednesday it had confirmed the county's first case of the virus in a senior woman. The woman has been hospitalized, and the health department is getting in touch with anyone she recently had contact with.
District Health Department #10 also reported Mecosta County's first positive coronavirus test on Wednesday. Officials there are also working to notify anyone who had recent contact with that patient.
Both health departments are advising residents to keep up their prevention efforts. They also say residents should look to sources like local health officials, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the state government for coronavirus information.
As of late Wednesday, the new cases had yet to be added to the state's official tally, which reached 2,294 Wednesday afternoon.
