Hep A outreach targets GR's high-risk groups

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Mary Wisinski is a one-woman public health machine.

“There is a hepatitis A outbreak going on in Michigan for the last couple years,” she announced to clients at Heartside Ministries in Grand Rapids Monday afternoon. “Have you heard about it?”

If they hadn’t, Wisinski, who is Kent County’s immunization program supervisor, quickly filled them in.

“The kind that’s going around has like an 80 percent hospitalization rate and 28 people have died on the other side of the state. … So we’re just trying to get everybody protected,” she explained before directing them to a table where they could vaccinated on the spot.
